Project Value: £750,000
Client/Contractor: Community 1st Oldham/L Saddleworth Medical Practice
Start/End date: Nov 2013 - ongoing
New medical centre located close to the conservation area in Delph, Oldham, replacing outdated facility on the site.
The building is a two storey load bearing masonry structure with timber roof and pre-cast concrete first floor.
The primary challenge was selecting an appropriate foundation solution given the constricted site, poor ground with high water table, and existing trees with root protection zones. A shallow raft was chosen with drainage set into the raft in trenches to avoid excavations below the water table. Tradition slate and stone building materials were used due to buildings proximity to the conservation area.
